The Legend

Balinese believe that the story of Tirta Empul Temple involves an epic battle between God Indra and the magical king Maya Denawa who had possessed a special power to transform into any form. However, he used it for black magic instead.

Sang kulputih as the priest then prayed to God Indra to defeat and put an end to Mayadenawa. Fortunately, Mayadenawa’s forces got defeated and left him alone. Later Mayadenawa created a poisonous pond where Indra’s army would drink from it.

In the morning, when Indra woke up, he finally found many people died while some were dying. Through his mighty power, Indra then pierced the ground using his staff. He created this sacred healing spring that now has been known as Tirta Empul.

What to Excpect
